Networks & switching
Which networks does FlexiFone use?
Your FlexiFone SIM has access to all three major US networks — AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. It is unsteered, which means your device picks whichever network is giving it the strongest signal in that location, rather than being locked to a single carrier's list of preferred partners.
How does switching between networks work?
Your device switches automatically when it loses signal completely. You can also switch manually at any time from Settings under Mobile Data, then Network Selection. Automatic switching is device dependent — it works best on iPhones, followed by recent Pixel and Samsung devices. If you have full bars but a slow or dead connection, you will need to select another network manually, because automatic switching only kicks in on a total loss of signal.
Can I block a specific network?
Yes. From your account you can allow or block individual networks on your SIM. This is useful if your primary line already uses one carrier and you want FlexiFone to cover the gaps rather than sitting on the same network.
What speeds should I expect?
This is a multi-network SIM that roams across all three networks, so expect solid everyday speeds — typically 10 to 80 Mbps, with peaks well above that. Coverage and speed depend on the underlying carriers rather than on us, and we do not guarantee any particular speed. Latency is slightly higher than a native carrier SIM because your traffic is roaming domestically, and carriers always prioritize their own subscribers at peak times. We do not throttle or de-prioritize your traffic ourselves, and your full allowance runs at full speed.
Plans & billing
What is the difference between monthly and annual plans?
Monthly plans are 30-day rolling — you can change or cancel them at any time. Annual plans are paid once for 12 months and reload your full allowance every 30 days, which works out significantly cheaper per gigabyte. Annual plans cannot be changed mid-term, so pick your allowance with a little headroom.
Does unused data roll over?
No. Your allowance resets on each 30-day reload and unused data does not carry into the next period. If you run out early you can buy a data add-on from your account instead of upgrading your whole plan.
Is there a contract, credit check or activation fee?
No contract and no credit check. There is no activation fee and no early termination fee. The only optional charge at checkout is $5 for a physical SIM to be mailed to you — eSIM delivery is free and instant.
How do I cancel?
Turn off auto-renewal in your account at any time. Your plan then runs to the end of the period you have already paid for and simply stops. Annual plans are prepaid for 12 months; see our refunds policy for what happens if you cancel early.
Can I use a FlexiFone SIM as my only line?
These are data-only SIMs, so they carry no phone number, no voice calls and no SMS. They are designed as a data line — either as a second SIM that covers the gaps in your primary carrier's coverage, or as the only SIM in a tablet, hotspot, router or IoT device. Calling and messaging over Wi-Fi apps such as FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom work normally over the data connection.
SIMs & devices
eSIM or physical SIM — which should I choose?
Choose eSIM if your device supports it. It is free, arrives by email within minutes of ordering, and takes about a minute to install by scanning a QR code. Choose a physical SIM ($5, 2 to 4 business days by USPS) if your device has no eSIM support, or if it is a hotspot, router or IoT device that only takes a card.
Can I move my eSIM to a new phone?
Yes. Our eSIMs support device-to-device transfer, so you can move your line to a new handset yourself without paying a reactivation fee. If your new device cannot complete the transfer, contact support and we will reissue your eSIM.
Which devices work with FlexiFone?
Any unlocked device that supports LTE or 5G on the US networks. Automatic network switching is best on iPhone, then on recent Pixel and Samsung devices. Some budget Android handsets and a few carrier-locked devices handle network selection poorly, and locked devices will not work at all. Hotspots, routers, tablets, cameras and IoT modules all work with a physical SIM.
Can I tether or use my phone as a hotspot?
Yes, and there is no separate hotspot allowance — your whole plan is usable for tethering. If you plan to tether large volumes, our larger data-only plans and annual pricing are much cheaper per gigabyte than topping up.
Can I bring my existing phone number?
No. Because these are data-only SIMs with no voice or SMS service, there is no number to port in or out. Keep your current number on your primary line and add FlexiFone alongside it as a data SIM.
Coverage & travel
Will FlexiFone fix my dead spots?
That is exactly what it is for. Most dead spots are specific to one carrier rather than to an entire area, so having all three networks available on one SIM means that when one has nothing, another usually does. It cannot create coverage where no carrier has any — but those places are rare.
Does it work in Alaska, Hawaii and US territories?
Yes, wherever the three national networks have coverage, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Coverage in remote areas still depends on the carriers themselves.
Can I use my data abroad?
Yes. International data roaming is included in over 75 destinations, and you can use up to 25 GB of your allowance outside the US per 30-day period. A full destination list is in your account.
